Explore the art of rug braiding in this beginner workshop at Strawbery Banke. Participants will learn the traditional technique of braided rug making while creating a mug rug a practical and beautiful accessory for the kitchen.
No prior sewing or rug making experience is required. Guided by Museum instructors, you’ll practice hand-stitching on mid-colored quilting cotton with natural fiber batting and finish your piece with bias tape. Using fabric strips, you'll first learn an effective braiding followed by a secure assembly technique. By the end of the workshop, you’ll take home a completed mug rug and the skills to continue exploring rug making on your own.
This workshop is suitable for ages 16 and older and limited to 8 participants. All materials and tools are provided. Members $65; Nonmembers $75.
