Storytelling and traditional arts go hand-in-hand in Indigenous communities, as traditional knowledge is passed orally from generation to generation. In addition to beading lessons that have been passed down in Indigenous communities, archaeologists have found ancient beads on sites throughout New England.

Anne Jennison, who is listed on the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts Traditional Artists Roster as a traditional Native American storyteller and craftsperson, instructs participants in the creation of a beaded medallion or earrings on birch bark to take home. Anne will instruct participants in the art of beading while also sharing the history of Abenaki adaptation to new materials like glass trade beads.

Materials are provided. Space is limited to 12 participants.

Previous experience with craft that requires fine motor skills, like hand sewing, needlepoint, or embroidery, is required.
